Review and confirm discovered apps
Turn system-discovered applications into a cleaner inventory by confirming, correcting or leaving uncertain records for later.
What you get
A cleaner app inventory with a clearer line between applications you recognise and records that still need investigation.
Before you start
Your first sync finished, and twenty minutes. After this it is a few minutes a month.
Steps
- Go to Apps and open the Discovered tab.
- For each app, decide: do we use this?
- Confirm the ones you recognise. They move into your active inventory.
- Use the appropriate inactive, archive or delete action only when you understand what should happen to the record and its history.
- Where two rows are the same tool under different names, keep the one carrying the spend.
- Leave anything you genuinely cannot identify in Discovered and return to it.
Work top-down, not exhaustively
Start with high-spend and business-critical apps. A reliable core inventory is more useful than rushing through a long tail of names you do not recognise.
What to expect
Apps arrive named as your transactions name them, so a vendor's legal name may look unfamiliar. Categories are right most of the time and occasionally confidently wrong. Both are quick to fix and both are covered later in this section.
An app you know you pay for and cannot find is almost certainly sitting in Needs Review or Unmapped — that is the next article.
What you've unlocked
Your app list is now a better base for spend, renewal and savings analysis.
