Connect your identity provider

Bring users, app relationships and available sign-in signals into AppVentory from Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID or Okta.

What you get

Bring the people and usage half of AppVentory's discovery picture into the product. Identity/workspace providers contribute users, applications, user-to-app relationships and available activity or usage signals.

That gives you a clearer picture of who is connected to which applications. Pairing identity/workspace data with accounting data gives AppVentory the fuller view: what software exists, who is associated with it, how it is being used and what the organisation is paying for.

The exact data available depends on the identity provider you connect.

Before you start

Admin access to your identity provider, and Live Mode.

AppVentory supports Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID and Okta. Google and Microsoft use their standard administrator authorisation flows. Okta uses an API Services application and credentials created in Okta.

Steps

  1. Go to Integrations.
  2. Find your provider under Identity Providers and click Connect.
  3. Complete the provider's authorisation flow. For Okta, enter the Client ID, Client Secret and Okta Domain from the API Services app you created.
  4. Run or wait for the first sync.

Google Workspace and Microsoft Entra ID synchronise automatically after connection. Okta uses Sync Now, so its freshness depends on when you run a sync.

What comes into AppVentory

Depending on the provider, AppVentory can use identity data such as:

  • Users and basic attributes such as name, email, job title and department
  • Applications connected or assigned through the identity provider
  • User-to-application relationships
  • Available sign-in or activity signals for Google Workspace and Microsoft Entra ID
  • Sync history and activity records

What does not come across

The identity connection is not a content or administration sync. AppVentory does not use it to import email content, Drive/OneDrive files, Teams messages, calendars, passwords or financial data.

The connection is also one-way. AppVentory does not create, modify, provision or deprovision users or applications in Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID or Okta.

Apps that sit outside the connected identity environment — for example, tools used with personal accounts — may not be discovered through the IdP connection alone.

What you've unlocked

You now have an identity-backed view of users and their relationship with applications. That makes app ownership, access and usage analysis more useful than an app list on its own.
