Connect AppVentory to Claude and ChatGPT (MCP)

Ask questions about your AppVentory software portfolio in plain language from a supported AI assistant.

What you get

Connect AppVentory to Claude or ChatGPT and ask questions about your software portfolio in plain language — without changing anything in AppVentory.

The connection is read-only. Your assistant can list or search the apps already tracked in AppVentory, return portfolio counts and show your top apps by spend.

Before you start

You need:

  • An AppVentory account you can sign in to at my.appventory.com
  • Apps already tracked in AppVentory — the assistant reads your existing data and does not add to it
  • A Claude or ChatGPT account that supports connectors

Connect AppVentory

  1. Open your AI assistant's connector settings and add AppVentory. If you are adding it manually, use https://api.appventory.com/mcp as the server URL.
  2. You will be sent to my.appventory.com. Sign in with your usual AppVentory email and password.
  3. Review the permission screen. It shows which assistant is requesting access and what it can read.
  4. Choose Allow. You will return to your assistant with AppVentory connected.

You only need to sign in once. The connection remains active until you remove it.

What you can ask

Try questions such as:

  • “What SaaS apps are we tracking in AppVentory?”
  • “Show me our software stack, including each app's status and category.”
  • “How many of our apps are in use versus discovered?”
  • “What are we spending the most on over the last 12 months?”
  • “Give me a summary of our software portfolio.”

What AppVentory shares

The connector can return information from the AppVentory organisation attached to the account you signed in with. It can list or search tracked apps, return portfolio counts and return top apps by spend.

It cannot add, change or delete anything in AppVentory.

If you manage client organisations

The connection attaches to your own AppVentory account, not to whichever client workspace you happened to be viewing when you connected. Keep that scope in mind when asking questions through the assistant.

Disconnect AppVentory

Remove the AppVentory connector from your assistant's settings. The assistant will stop having access to your AppVentory data through that connection.

Troubleshooting

The sign-in page does not load or the connection fails

Confirm that you can sign in directly at my.appventory.com, then try connecting again.

The assistant cannot find any apps

Sign in to AppVentory and confirm that apps already appear in your account. The connector reads existing AppVentory data; it does not create your app inventory for you.

What you've unlocked

You can now use a supported AI assistant as another read-only way to explore your AppVentory portfolio and spend data.
